About Val…

Visiting a friend who had a wildlife rehabilitation center.

UPDATE: After 40 years working at House In The Wood in Delavan Wisconsin, Val has retired. In 2025, retirement has been going on for over 2 years. Turns out that navigating retirement is a little harder than anticipated. I think that I finally have the hang of it. Maybe now, I will have time to blog.

Val has been working in summer camps for over 35 years as a counselor, nature instructor, camp director and lately as an executive director. She has also enjoyed some time working and volunteering as an outdoor educator.

Early on, she told her mother that she wanted to be one of those people who did the nature talks at the national parks. So expect a lot of pondering about nature.

She drove her husband nuts asking, “Why do you suppose…?” until he finally realized that she was just fascinated by the wonder of the question. Google has put a serious crimp in her wondering as people actually started to answer the question–oh sigh. It is absolutely amazing to me that even after 63 (now 69) years of life, there is still soooo much to wonder about.

And lastly…I just like to write. I am excited by the idea that I can copyright my stories–it just makes them more official somehow.

I am looking forward to sharing my stories and my wondering with you.
